Include your iPhone model, iOS version and the app version (Settings → About).
Getting Trailway
Trailway is free on the App Store for iPhone (iOS 17 or later), with an optional Apple Watch app (watchOS 10 or later).
Common questions
How does Trailway pick a route? It searches Ohio DOT bike routes and OpenStreetMap trails, bike lanes and streets. You get three options: Most protected (stays on paths whenever it can), Balanced, and Most direct. The color bar under each one shows the route in riding order.
What are heads-up sections? Every stretch off a protected path, such as a street, sidewalk or unmapped connection. Each one has a 3D Flyover preview so you know what to expect.
Can I record walks and runs? Yes. On the Go tab, pick Bike, Walk or Run before you start. Walks and runs show your pace, save to Apple Health as walking or running workouts, and plan routes that use sidewalks as well as paths. Pick Bike, Walk or Run next to Start on the Route tab too.
How do I use my Apple Watch? On your iPhone, open the Watch app, find Trailway under Available Apps and tap Install. Open Trailway on the Watch once and allow Health access. After that the Watch starts, pauses and ends with your rides, walks and runs.
Can I bring in rides from Garmin or Strava? Settings → Connected apps & import. Garmin rides come in through Apple Health (turn on Garmin Connect → Apple Health) or as .FIT files. Strava can be connected there when available.
Why don't I see Social? Social needs your iPhone signed in to iCloud. Your profile is hidden if Settings → Social & privacy is set to “Only me”.
How do I report a rider or post? Tap the ••• menu on the post or profile and choose Report, or Block to hide them. Reports are reviewed and content that breaks the community guidelines is removed.
How do I delete my account? Profile → Settings (gear) → Account → Delete account. Your Social posts, follows and comments are removed too.
Ride safely
Map data can be out of date. Follow traffic laws, watch for pedestrians on shared paths and sidewalks, and use your judgment on the ground.
